The Gavin Gretzula Smile Foundation

Gavin's story: On November 12, 2010 our 3 year old son was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. It was a heart wrenching diagnosis and a terrifying time in our lives. The emotional and financial toll it takes on families is profound, especially when you have other children, as we do. Right before our sons diagnosis, Chad had lost his full time job and was working part time, trying to makes ends meet. At this time he decided to fulfill his dream of opening his own practice. If anyone has ever tried to open a small business, you can relate to the stresses it brings to your life and the strain it puts on your family. Then we got the diagnosis. Our little boy had cancer. We have struggled both emotionally and financially in the process of opening our practice and we met so many families that were also struggling financially while going through treatment or helping a family member go through treatment. One evening while discussing the business we were in the process of opening, Chad and I were discussing the struggles that we are facing, and a thought occurred that it would be a wonderful way to not only help families in a similar struggle, but also to honor our sons courageous fight against cancer, by starting a foundation in his name.

The purpose of our foundation is to help families that are going through cancer treatment, either for themselves or for a child. We recognize how difficult it is to meet the needs of every family member when you are struggling just to stay afloat. In our several visits to clinic or overnight stays in the hospital, we have met many families that have expressed how difficult it is to manage the care and medical needs of other children or even themselves. Our goal through this foundation is to help families that are in need of oral surgery whether it is a simple extraction, wisdom teeth extractions or an implant being placed, from the initial consultation, through the procedure and after, free of charge or at a minimal cost.
